At McLar Injection Mouldings, we’re a family-run business with over 30 years of expertise in plastic injection moulding. From concept to delivery, we bring together technical capability, fast turnaround, and real people who care about getting it right.
We’re proud to be exhibiting at the Made in Yorkshire Expo on Thursday, 16th October 2025 at the Accu Stadium in Huddersfield.
As part of Made in Yorkshire’s Exhibitor Spotlight series, a member of the MIY team recently caught up with our Managing Director, Carol McDonald, to ask a few quick questions about what drives us, what we’ve achieved recently, and what exciting things we’ve got coming up next.
1. In one sentence – what do we do best?
We provide a full plastic injection moulding service from tooling to finished product – fast, reliable, and with people you can pick up the phone to.
2. What’s the driving mission or purpose behind McLar right now?
Our mission is simple: to be a moulding partner that’s easy to work with, easy to talk to, and consistently delivers quality.
We pride ourselves on our flexibility and our personal approach. As Carol puts it:
“We’re not a faceless manufacturer – our customers speak to real people, and we build relationships.”
Whether it’s turning jobs around quickly, supporting R&D projects, or offering honest advice when a design needs adjusting, we’re here to help our customers succeed.
3. What’s been the biggest milestone over the past 12 months?
Our proudest achievement this year has been gaining ISO 9001 certification – a huge step forward in how we operate and demonstrate our commitment to consistent quality.
It wasn’t just a box-ticking exercise. Every part of the business was involved – from procurement and design to dispatch and aftercare. It’s a sign that we take our standards seriously, and that we’re always looking to improve.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team – they’ve worked really hard to get us through this,” says Carol.
4. Any exciting developments on the horizon?
We’re continuing to invest in technology and training, and we’ve been busy expanding our tooling capabilities to better support our customers from the earliest stages of development.
We’ve also taken on a number of new customers recently, thanks to recommendations and word-of-mouth – which, for us, is the best endorsement you can get.
With ISO 9001 now in place, we’re committed to continuous improvement – and that means better systems, tighter processes, and even stronger relationships with our customers moving forward.
5. Tell us something surprising or little-known about us
Not many people know where our name comes from – “McLar” is a blend of two family names: McDonald (Carol’s maiden name) and Larkin (her mum’s maiden name). It’s a subtle but proud reminder that our roots are firmly in family.
And how did the business begin? It all started on a golf course, believe it or not. Back in the early ’90s, Carol’s husband Pete was chatting with a mate who needed a basin waste making. Pete casually said, “I can make that,” – and just like that, McLar was born.
From a one-off favour to a thriving plastic injection moulding business, we’ve grown a long way – but we’ve never lost that same can-do spirit.
